In the dream, I was auditioning kids for some kind of dance performance. One by one, kids came up on the stage and did dance numbers. Some of them were professional-level dancers, some just did everything right. What happens next is one of the most interesting changes in perspective I've ever seen. I held a painted egg in my hand. The egg was in the shape of a cartoon character, and was painted to fully represent what I think was supposed to be Bluto.

I told the other audition judges to gather around. I think this one is going to be very special, I told them. The egg broke and now we were somehow viewing two life-size children, asleep.

I said matter-of-factly to the other teachers---see, some of the kids, this is all they're up to. They can't dance, so they sleep.
